🌍 Privacy-first travel history

Your travel history,
beautifully mapped

Upload your Google Timeline export and instantly see every country, city, and journey you've ever made — on a fast, private, searchable map.

⚠️

Your Google Timeline data may disappear if you lose your phone

Google moved Timeline storage from the cloud to on-device memory starting mid-2024, with a hard deadline of June 9, 2025. If your device is lost, reset, or damaged without a prior export, your entire travel history is permanently gone. Footprint is the safest place to back it up — export once and your data is preserved forever.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about Footprint

What is Footprint?+
Footprint is a private travel-history visualiser. You export your Google Timeline data directly from your device (Android Settings or the Google Maps app on iPhone), upload the JSON file to Footprint, and it turns your history into an interactive map showing every country, city, and route you've ever visited.
How do I export my Google Timeline data?+
On Android: open Settings → Location → Location services → Timeline → Export Timeline data → Continue → Save. On iPhone: open Google Maps → tap your profile picture or initial → Settings → Location & Privacy → Export Timeline data → Save to Files. Both methods save a "location-history.json" file you can upload directly to Footprint.
Is my location data private?+
Yes. Your data is stored in your account only, never sold or shared with third parties. All files are encrypted at rest on Cloudflare R2, and only you can access them. We don't use your location for advertising.
Does Footprint work with iPhone / Apple Maps data?+
Currently Footprint supports Google Timeline JSON exports. Support for Apple Maps Significant Locations and other formats is on our roadmap.
How many countries can I track?+
The Free plan supports up to 10 countries. Paid plans unlock 20 countries (Explorer), 50 countries (Adventure), or unlimited countries (Globe Trotter). You can upgrade anytime from your account settings.
What happens when I upload a newer export?+
Footprint detects which visits already exist in your history and only imports new data — no duplicates. You can safely re-upload a fresh export whenever Google adds more history.
Can I delete my data?+
Yes. You can delete individual uploads, clear your entire visit history, or permanently delete your account from the Settings page. All associated files and personal data are removed immediately.
Which map does Footprint use?+
Footprint uses OpenStreetMap tiles via CartoDB for a clean, fast, light-themed map. No Google Maps — no additional tracking from map providers.
